Locals have reported NASA scientists and NTSB investigation teams working covertly in search of a crash site for the U.S. Government. Global satellite monitoring groups are on high alert after monitoring astonishing images of an unknown craft pacing the Shuttle Discovery then disappearing on a crash course towards the Caribbean. NASA’s Deep Space Network, the largest and most sensitive scientific telecommunications system in the world, is getting communications from the Mars Exploration Rover named “Spirit.” Although Spirit has been stuck in the sand on Mars, she’s still able to transmit images and messages to the Mars Reconaissance Orbiter. Scientists around the world are baffled by the Orbiter’s cryptic last message “I’m done. Let ‘B’ Side take over.” While scientists are buzzing with excitement and governments are posturing with concern, the Jamaican arms dealers are tightening up after all the unwanted attention. Peyton’s insulin supply is running out and Cody Yates is in the middle of a melee that requires all of his expertise to solve. Cody locates buyers from Mad Dog’s interrupted arms deal who are not only focused on acquiring Mad Dog’s unique weapon but also looking for someone. Cody joins forces with the buyers to return the weapon and search the island for Peyton and their friend. Along the way, Cody and Sam find more than anyone could have imagined. Converging U.S. military agencies, Jamaican officials, and the newly opened office from the United Nations, Cody’s predicament is being watched from every resource available. After the launch of a Golden Record more than 30 years ago, no one thought it would be found. Our beliefs that we are alone in this vast, uncharted universe will forever be challenged. This book satisfies on so many levels. Followers of UFO stories, government conspiracies, and who-done-its will all find what they want in these pages. For myself, UFO was the draw. The book opens with, "Houston, we have company," from astronaut Major Burton while on a shuttle mission in orbit. Mission Control immediately reroutes the transmission so that nobody can hear their conversation. Unfortunately for them, there are plenty of witnesses in Jamaica when the same UFO crashes into the ocean shortly after the transmission. The media rushes to Jamaica where they interview many of the witnesses and televise videos of the event.We are introduced to Cody Yates and his dog, Sam, as they watch the news coverage at home. Sam is a search and rescue dog who is something of a canine hero in Jamaica after locating a lost child. The newscast they are watching switches over to a story about the Louisiana governor's missing daughter, Peton Albright. There haven't been any ransom demands and the police are left clueless. When the governor receives an anonymous message that mentions Cody and an old friend of his by name, Cody is summoned and hired to find Peyton. Cody's search brings him and Sam back to Jamaica in the midst of the UFO excitement. We have the military,the media, Peyton, the UFO, Cody and Sam, some outlaws, and some strange characters all converging in Jamaica for their own agendas. The military and government are trying to hush things up while searching the waters for the UFO as Cody finds himself staying one step ahead of hired assassins. The action is kicked up a notch and we are left turning the page as fast as we can.
I won't outline any more of the book because that has already been done. I will say I felt like I was seeing the beauty of Jamaica as I read and the characters came alive on the page for me. Cody was very real to me and if there is a sequel, I want to read it.

This is a can't put it down from the opening lines to the last page suspense story that is almost believable-
Great book! Can't wait for the sequel!
Left me wanting more Yates...
This book rocks! I definitely see a movie made based on Fire is Born. The main character - Cody Yates - is both likeable and believable. He is rugged, tough, and independent, but at the same time - smart, savvy, and smooth. The characters are well-defined and colorful. The dialogue in the novel pops with excitement and the book delivers riveting action and excitement with every page. This is a MUST-READ for summer vacation and I can hardly wait for the sequel! Cody--you are the new Clint of your time!
